The project proposes a strategy to evoke the disappeared historical heritage, whether known or intuited, seen as a permanent recovery and reading of the history of the city’s development. Given the importance of the conclusions of the archaeological research stage preceding the finalization of the project, the proposed solution anticipates the unknowns in the field, proposing modularity and flexibility of the constructive elements, which can quickly adapt to the reality discovered in situ. Thus, the chosen structure discharges pointwise, piercing the foundation of the market as little as possible. At the same time, the new market space is restored to the status of the gateway to the inner city, benefiting from a considerable increase in the pedestrian area, invested with the display of the testimonies of future archaeological discoveries. The square space thus becomes a palimpsest of traces of the city’s history.
