Situated at the north-estern limit of the city center, on the banks of the Somes river, the proposed revitalization of the “Feroviarilor” Park relies on the sustainable urban development principles. The project seeks to re-integrate natural (aquatic and vegetal) elements within the city, along with providing diverse facilities for neighborhood and city-level communities. The required means for these proposal have been designed to be non-invasive and reversible. Our solution aims to balance the resources and high-quality public spaces that satisfy the needs of the community within the designed landscape and proposed buildings.
The proposal for Someș Garden positions the park as a key component of the Ecological Green System, by integrating the Someș River as its main ecological axis. The re-naturalization of the riverbanks is complemented by a series of wetlands that act as the principal attractors of the park. Connected through a simple rainwater collection system, these wetlands, together with the river, become dynamic elements that support the emergence of specific vegetation and fauna, recalling the intrinsic atmosphere of existing natural spaces along the Someș.
The functional concept is organized into four parallel strips — the Someș Strip, the Ecological Strip, the Cultural Strip and the Social Strip — each with its own specificity and intensity of human use. This gradual arrangement ensures a smooth transition from the built neighborhoods to the natural riverside environment, allowing multiple scenarios of use throughout the day and across seasons.
The vegetation strategy preserves significant existing trees while introducing native plant groups characteristic of the Somesul Mic basin and complementary ecotopes. Subtle topographic modeling enhances the park’s relationship with the river. The built elements follow a discreet and reversible architectural approach, using wood and metal, while existing materials are reused for ecological purposes, reinforcing the sustainable character of the proposal.
